She has been described as "the pre-eminent British folk rock singer". After briefly working with British folk band the Strawbs, Denny joined Fairport Convention in 1968, remaining with that band until the end of 1969. She formed the short-lived band Fotheringay in 1970, releasing one album with them (another unreleased album surfaced over thirty years later), before focusing on a solo career. Between 1971 and 1977, Denny released four solo albums: The North Star Grassman and the Ravens, Sandy, Like an Old Fashioned Waltz, and Rendezvous. She is also noted as the only guest vocalist on a Led Zeppelin studio album, when she shared a duet with Robert Plant for "The Battle of Evermore" on Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth album (1971). Music publications Sunday Express, Uncut and Mojo have each called Denny Britain's finest female singer-songwriter.Her composition "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" has been recorded by many artists as diverse as Judy Collins, Nina Simone, 10,000 Maniacs and Cat Power. 1968 Borrowed Thyme (Bootleg, 2001) (1:09:13) 1971 The North Star Grassman And The Ravens (1991 Island Masters IMCD 133 UK) (39:48) 1971 The North Star Grassman and The Ravens (2005 Remaster, Island Records IMCD313) (57:03) 1971 The North Star Grassman and The Ravens (2011 Remaster, Island Masters UK) (2CD, 1:46:03) 1972 Sandy (1991 Island Records IMCD 132 USA) (40:40) 1972 Sandy (Remaster, 2005 Island Records IMCD314) (1:04:49) 1973 All Our Own Work (& The Strawbs) (Remaster, 2005 Estrella Rockera) (40:10) 1973 All Our Own Work (& The Strawbs) (Remaster, 2010 Witchwood) (1:04:44) 1973 Like an Old Fashioned Waltz (2005 Remaster, Island Records) (1:05:53) 1977 Rendezvous (1986 Hannibal HNCD 4423) (44:07) 1977 Rendezvous (2005 Remaster, Island IMCD316) (58:40) 1998 Gold Dust.
